Over a period exceeding 30 years, Elson has practised in areas covering foreign investment, joint ventures, real estate, business acquisitions, business-related immigration, commercial dispute resolution and general corporate and commercial law. Much of this work has revolved around the Chinese-Australian business axis, giving Elson a fine appreciation and strong understanding of the nuiances of business cultures on both sides of the table.
Elson founded this law firm after spending 16 years working with a major international law firm. During his time at that firm, Elson spent 2 years in the firm’s office in Taipei and for the remainder of the time was based in Sydney. He established and headed that firm’s Chinese practice in Australia and was also a member of the firm’s world-wide China practice group which first established an office in Beijing in 1980.
Apart from advising Australian and other Western companies on business transactions and disputes in China, Elson is also legal advisor to a number of major corporations from Taiwan and China which have established operations in Australia.
Elson was appointed a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission in 2012.
